The Build Teams is an Engineering Project type of curricular unit that unfolds right in the beginning of the course. The curricular unit is strategically positioned in the first term of the first year (Build Teams I, with 3 ECTS) and in the fourth term of the first year (Build Teams II, also with 3 ECTS) to give students the chance to adapt their work to the curricular unit to the different projects being offered by the different Students Groups that participate in the Build Teams curricular unit. Alternatively, in the first term of the first year, if the student prefers to enroll in a project course of Geometric Modelling instead of enrolling in a Students Group, the student can change the curricular unit of Build Teams I by the curricular unit of Technical Drawing and Geometrical Modelling also according in this term and with the same amount of ECTS.

Scope and Aims: In this curricular unit students’ passions come to life through the realization of projects based on their own interests and involving design, construction, and testing. Building one of these projects will be one of the most challenging, engaging, and complex activities that students will work on during their time at Técnico. The curricular unit also promotes the welcoming of students in Técnico’s academic community through their integration in the different Student Groups existing in the School (e.g., PSEM, TLMOTO, FST, BEST, AeroTec, among others). In this way, students will acquire practical experience in areas such as project management, digital skills, prototyping and introduction to design, while gaining valuable experience in the operation of various machines and equipment. In addition, the UC also aims to develop soft skills such as teamwork, oral and written expression, time management and work by objectives.
