The GENI degree at Técnico is designed primarily for international students (IS). It will be taught in English, addressing a long-standing barrier that has limited international enrollment in first-cycle engineering programs. By offering an accessible, globally oriented curriculum, Técnico aims to attract students from diverse backgrounds who seek a broad and flexible engineering education.
A limited number of places will also be available for national students (PT) through the CNA (Concurso Nacional de Acesso ao Ensino Superior). GENI provides these students an opportunity to engage in an open-ended engineering program that fosters autonomy and exploration across different disciplines, preparing them for the rapid technological and societal changes of today’s world.
The program is structured to accommodate both general engineering education and eventual specialisation. After the first two years, international students can transition into specific first-cycle engineering degrees at Técnico, provided they meet the requirements. This pathway allows them to integrate into Portuguese-taught programs, leveraging their time in Portugal to develop language skills and deepen their expertise. The possibility of English-taught classes in some curricular units further supports their academic journey.
